The director of data and analytics and business intelligence is an organizational leader with a passion for data and analysis who has a clear vision for how data can transform company strategy.

Data lies at the heart of every decision we make, and we're looking for an analytics expert who's ready to take on this creative and high-influence role. You'll be managing and mentoring a team of analysts and data scientists, helping to provide business intelligence and insights for stakeholders across multiple business units, including product, R&D, Sales, Marketing, Customer Success and Operations. You'll frame inform, influence, support and execute strategy & research initiatives, helping maximize Harmonize’s leadership and impact. Your work will inform an array of strategic and operational initiatives that cut across disciplines that involve both internal and external stakeholders… Reports to the CEO.

Responsibilities

  • Own the vision and roadmap for a Data Analytics and Business Intelligence team, supporting a key pillar for Harmonize
  • Promoting the team's mission and vision, setting appropriate data-driven goals and selecting research methods that ground decision making in evidence
  • Guide development of data and research capabilities and tools by providing input on collection, storage, and analysis methods, while promoting data and research best practices
  • Work closely with R&D, product, operations, sales and other internal stakeholders to plan data strategy, scope out resource requirements, proactively identify opportunities for improvement, and build robust scalable tools to empower decision making at all levels of the company
  • Define data requirements to solve business problems and develop data solution, across all different types of data that can address business, including but not limited to operation data, product related data, customer profile, consumer behavior, 3rd party data
  • Define data quality guideline and align data governance
  • Liaise with internal teams to understand problems, manage expectations and resolve issues
  • Prototype new metrics & models to generate new insights about our energy solutions and customers
  • Transform data into opportunities – establish hypotheses, dig into the data, and seek to understand root causes – to drive business impact
  • In partnership with other business units, inform architectural decisions, establish best practices, develop lean scalable processes, and contribute to the overall direction of the Data organization
  • Train, develop and coach staffs on technical and professional skills
  • Perform other duties required for a people manager
  • Ensure that all transactional systems can communicate with the data warehouse and that production data adheres to a unified data model
  • Work with product, operations and executive management to guide maintain a holistic vision of the future of data at GitLab, and help leadership plan for any changes in our data strategy or needs. An example is in-product analytics
  • This position reports directly to the CFO and works closely with the executive team to develop an organization plan that addresses company wide analytic resources in either a direct report or matrix model

Requirements

  • Postgraduate work or equivalent experience (Masters or PhD) in a quantitative field such as math, physics, computer science, statistics etc.
  • Minimum of 7 years experience in a senior leadership position managing an analytics team
  • Experience with a high growth company using on-premise tools and on-demand (SaaS) transactional systems
  • Hands on experience with Python, SQL and relational databases. Experience with Redshift is a plus
  • Have previously lead a corporate data platform project
  • Experience with open source data & analytics tools
  • Experience working with multiple executive level business stake holders
  • Must have experience with analytic and data visualization tools such as Periscope

Minimum Qualifications / Requirements

  • Education and Experience:
  • Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field and 12-15 years’ experience in analytics related field
  • Option 2: Master’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field and 10-12 years’ experience in analytics related field
  • Option 3: PhD in Machine Learning, Statistics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Econometrics or related field and 8-10 years’ experience in analytics related field
  • Strong analytical foundation and data-driven approach to understanding a business
  • 5+ years of experience in leading and managing data analytics/ science teams
  • 3+ years of experience with online retail and consumer facing industries
  • Experience building and analyzing A/B and multivariate tests
  • Strong people and project management skills
  • A passion for finding insights in data and driving change based on those insights
  • Ability to communicate with and influence both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Mastery of Experience creating & deploying models in a production environment using SQL and python is preferred
  • Comfort navigating ambiguity in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Skilled in presenting organization-wide data insights to both non-technical and technical stakeholders, from individual contributors all the way up to the Executive Leadership Team
